Your struggle isn’t random. It’s patterned — and patterns can be interrupted.
Same time of day. Same emotional state. Same location. Same result. Different day. You’re not randomly falling — you’re running a play you’ve rehearsed hundreds of times. And the scary thing about a pattern is that it executes itself. You don’t decide. You react.
You can’t break what you haven’t mapped. God’s invitation isn’t to “try harder” — it’s to pay attention. Awareness is a weapon. The moment you can see the pattern coming, you have a choice. That choice is where freedom lives.
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
1 Peter 5:8
If you’re honest, what is the pattern? When does it usually happen? What are you always feeling when it does?
Heavenly Father, I can see the pattern now — or at least I'm starting to. The same time, the same feelings, the same sequence playing out like a script I didn't write but keep performing. I don't want to react anymore. I want to choose. Give me the awareness to see what's coming before it arrives. Make me sober-minded and alert — not anxious, but awake. Show me the moment before the moment, where I still have a choice. And when I see it, give me something better to do with it than what I've always done. You are present in that gap. Help me find You there before I find my way into the pattern again. Amen.
Map your pattern on paper this week. Time, place, trigger, feeling. You can’t fight what you haven’t named.
